Angelique, Angelique Special, Angelique DuetDespite the different titles, they are actually all the same game. Angelique is the very first game, released for the SNES platform. This is also the SNES-ROM that has circulated the Internet for almost as long. When the game was upgraded and ported to other, more advanced platforms, it was re-named to Angelique Special. Even later (after Special 2), the game was upgraded to allow the player to choose to play Angelique or Rosalia. This upgrade was re-named Angelique Duet. There are many versions to track, so unless Amazon.jp lies, the following should be a complete list. Since these games are all out-of-print, and this is going way too far back in history, I can't track down most of their original price tags. The heroine in this game is Angelique Limoges (aka the blond queen candidate) and her rival is Rosalia. Nine love endings are possible in this game, one for each of the nine Guardians.
Angelique Special 2Angelique Limoges was now the Queen, and Rosalia was her aide. Instead of cultivating a continent, this time, the queen candidate had to cultivate the planets of the New Cosmos. Six new characters were introduced, including three tutors to aid the queen candidate. All the Guardians were given a new wardrobe as well. The main character in this game is Angelique Collet (aka the brunette queen candidate) and her rival is Rachel Hart. Fifteen love endings are possible, one for each of the Guardians and new characters.
Angelique Tenkuu no RequiemUnlike the previous Angelique games, which centered around the cultivation tasks, this is a role-playing game with a developing story. For the first time, an evil character is introduced into the Angelique universe, Leviath, an emperor from a different cosmos. At the same time, a new and mysterious character, Arios, befriends Angelique Collet. This game is a prequel to the first OVA series, Shiroi Tsubasa no Memoire. Even though this is a RPG, there are still fifteen love endings to try for, one for each main character. You cannot get a love ending with Arios in this game. In case you're wondering why there are two queens, there are actually two different cosmos now. Angelique Limoges rules the more mature and stable cosmos with her nine original guardians. Angelique Collet's New Cosmos (it didn't have a name yet), cultivated in Special 2, is too young to have guardians of its own.
Angelique TroisThis game marks a major upgrade for the Angelique series, and not just in the new wardrobe for all the characters. The cultivation and dating systems were upgraded as well, and the graphics look better than ever, with the help of the animation designer from the beautiful OVA series and the improved power of the PS2. Its story follows from the Shiroi Tsubasa no Memoire OVA and continues to develop the increasingly complex Angelique world. A strange floating continent, Arcadia, has appeared in the dimensional corridor, together with a strange being called Elda. Angelique Collet must cultivate this continent, eventually developing it into the Small Cosmos. Sixteen love endings are possible, one for each character, including Arios. A year after the game's release, an Aizouban version was released which upgraded the graphics and system even more. There's a reason why there are two different Aizouban versions, but I can't remember what it is now. Sorry.
Angelique étoileAfter overcoming the crisis in Angelique Trois, a new one appeared in the Gemme Stories series, partly told in the Seichi yori Ai wo komete OVA. Angelique Collet's Seijuu Cosmos is on the verge of collapse, and prophecy tells of a girl, named the legendary étoile (means 'star' in French), who will save the universe. A new heroine, Enge, is introduced to the Angelique series, and three more new characters are added to the cast. These three new characters, together with the six collaborators, eventually become the new Guardians of the Seijuu Cosmos in the course of the game. All the characters were given a new wardrobe, including a casual wear, that was first designed for the Seichi yori Ai wo komete OVA series. Nineteen love endings are possible in this game, one for each character, including Arios. Before the release of the game, a Prologue CD-ROM book was published to give a preview fo the game and recap the Angelique universe. The ISBN of the book is 4775800434.
Other Angelique gamesFushigi no Kuni no Angelique (Angelique in Wonderland)This is out of the timeline of the series so I'm not going to talk much about it. It's basically a board game, and you play the character of Angelique Limoges. It has to do with a tea party ala Alice in Wonderland. It was released for the Playstation generation platforms. Sweet AngeAnother meaningless board game out of the timeline of the series. As its name implies, this has something to do with baking sweets. Right.
